“Very pleased with heat pump performance. No other fuel used--About 90 kWh per week in cold weather.”
Richard C.Hill – Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maine, Director Emeritus of the Department of Industrial Cooperation
"Adam is a pleasure to work with and did a great job on the installation. We love the heat pump! My wife runs a daycare out of our house, and it’s wonderful having a device that provides the needed heating or cooling for the home and there aren’t any hot surfaces that kids can touch. The device also filters the air so it’s making the air quality better. Cost-wise, I believe that we are spending 30 to 40% less for heat than we would have using heating oil. In the past we’ve had to use a woodstove to offset the high oil costs, but I burned very little wood this past winter given that the heat pump did so well. This winter it was quite often that I could shut my oil system off completely and use just the heat pump. Even at low temperatures like 0 degree Fahrenheit, the heat pump seemed to still produce significant heat and made the oil unit run less often."
Gabe Perrow – Professor of Mathematics at Eastern Maine Community College
“Not only are we saving money, the house is much warmer and cozier...and cleaner. And with air conditioning in the summer, the mini-split heat pump has been a great investment for us in many ways."
Sharon Barker – Director of the Women's Resource Center at the University of Maine
"I am very happy with my heat pump."
Angela C. Gilladoga, M.D. from Bangor
"I would highly recommend Maine Alternative Comfort and the mini-split heat pump. The heat pump has keep us very cozy this winter and we have used very little oil (I do heat my water with oil). Adam was highly professional, installed the pump for the quoted price and did the install on the day cited. They were promp and professional."
Patricia Hickey from Bangor
"I have been in touch with our fuel supplier and it would appear that we are looking at a savings of about 50 % WHICH would equate to 600 -700 gallons!!! That could be a one year payback!!!"
Andy + Janet Pease from Brooklin
“I’m really glad I had a heat pump installed. It’s expected to save me about $1300 off my heating costs in a year, but based on my first electric bill, I think it’s going to save me more. I have not run my oil furnace since my heat pump was installed. It’s also much quieter than my oil furnace. I’m very happy with it and the service I received. I’ve been telling all my friends and family about it and they are interested in getting one too!”
Susan Faloon from Bangor
"While it works a bit differently in my old and spacious home compared to some other that I know, I’m pretty sure that I’m in love with my Fujitsu. While I know it is comparable in cost to pellets, it is such a blessing to not have to lug 40 lb. bags and clean ash off of everything! I’m also looking forward to not having to repeatedly put in and take out my AC in the summertime!"
Stephanie Wong from Bangor
"My wife and I have been extremely happy with our heat pump. It has been reliable (even when the temps were below zero), the heat has been very comfortable, our electric bill has increased much less than the savings on our oil costs, and we are looking forward to the cooling our heat pump will provide this summer."
Peter Dawes from Bangor
"Very easy to sign up and complete the paperwork necessary to complete the installation. The use of an online Calendar to reserve the install date was useful as well. Install went really well and have simply loved the units thus far. We seem to keep it at a temperature that is much more comfortable, than when we relied on the boiler for our primary heat source. I am looking to do an install of some nature to take care of our water heating needs, as well so I can essentially turn off the boiler entirely for the majority of months each year. I am also looking forward to not having to install 3 window AC units in a few months as well. I have always dreaded their install and removal each year."
Mark Lagasse from Glenburn
"Maine Alternative Comfort provided great installation, service and the heat pump's performance during the winter exceeded our expectations. It has saved us at least $2,500 in oil (we paid $3,000 last year) while adding about $90-$100 to our electric bill during the winter months. With the oil savings, rebates and tax credit, the heat pump has already paid for itself."
Jim Toner from Orono
Before I comment on the heat pump, let me say it's been a long time -- childhood -- since I was in WVA. On that trip, we sat atop a cliff overlooking Harpers Ferry and viewed cannon holes in some of the walls of buildings. They were from the Civil War. It reminds me of just how brief U.S. history is.
Our history with a mini-split heat pump has been very happy. Our old oil burner was wearing out, and it would have cost about $10,000 to replace it and add a couple of parts that had never been installed with the old one. Furthermore, we were trying to faze out of burning oil for pollution reasons.
We've had ours since last fall, and it has performed very well. The only negative is that it does leave the basement unheated, but even on very cold days it never drops below 45 degrees there. We may install an electric fan-heater there, but we're not serious about it. The heat pump has kept our house warm when it was ten degrees outdoors or a bit colder.
Further, our electric bill has been low since we installed the heat pump. In winter, we had been paying about $140 in the coldest month plus $250/month on an oil bill. With the heat pump, we paid $140 last January -- with no money toward oil. That means the heat pump added about $20 to our winter bill.
Global warming in which I believe, having been in Maine 46 years and seeing the weather become progressively warming over the past dozen years, has made Maine hot in summer -- some days up to 100 degrees. We turned on the heat pump one such day and found that it nicely cools the entire house, a lot more efficiently than an air conditioner could. This happened just by turning it on with no special settings.
We highly recommend Alternative Comfort. Adam is well educated, honest, and will visit your summer home with you to advise you whether he thinks it will help in your situation. The home needs some open space, as the three-foot-wide unit on the wall circulates air throughout the house. Our ranch house is open on one side with four rooms on the other side. In the bathroom in winter, we've used a portable electric heater for my 4 a.m. showers.
There are also several discounts you'll receive from the manufacturer and Bangor Hydro for using a heat pump.
If we had to grade the heat pump on a level of 1 through 10, we'd probably give it a 15.
I would definitely recommend your going ahead and having Adam come down to your summer home and look at it. Then, I'd follow his recommendation.
I would like to take this opportunity to share my experience with the purchase, installation and operation of my Fujitsu Heat Pumps.
Maine Alternative Comfort LLC was my first choice to install these new heat pumps because of their knowledge and professionalism compared to other vendors we spoke with at the Bangor Home Show. They came on schedule and were a very experienced group of men. They worked well together and were continually keeping me informed as to what and how things were being installed. I have recommended them to all of my friends who were thinking of moving in this direction for a heat source.
My first thought was to only use these units as a heat source and not for the other things they could do. I have used the heat pumps for heat, in the early part of spring, on the economy mode and was very satisfied with the performance with little increase in my electric bill. I look forward to this winter to begin realizing the real savings.
Wow, remember the July heat wave; well I caved in and turned on the cooling mode of the Heat pump and I was truly amazed at the performance, as were my friends. I kept the air conditioning on 24/7 for the duration of the extreme heat. My electric bill went up only $14.00 for that month, and believe, me it was worth 10 times that.
Now the late August early September rains have made it so humid and muggy I decided to use the dry mode and that was also a pleasurable experience.
In conclusion I would recommend Adam and his crew to anyone interested in this new technology.

Installation was done expertly
Units worked great for the summer with dehumidification and cooling.
My heat pump worked great for the month of April. I kept it at 70 and it was great working along with the woodstoves. And we could get up in the morning and it was warm ! in the house. We used the AC one or two days this summer and it was wonderful to be cooler after working all day. Very efficient and easy to use.
Thanks for your good work.
We have ben extremely happy with the overall performance of our mini-split and the 50% drop in our oil bill. It is efficient, simple and quiet. We even used it during the dog days of August and I was amazed. It was a terrific air conditioner.
I would feel confident recommending Maine Alternative Comfort for installation and purchasing of your mini-split. They installed the unit on the day the promised, took care of obtaining the electrician, were very professional and did a fabulous job.
My in-laws are very happy with their heat pump so far. They have used it extensively for cooling and as you are probably aware, I installed a meter. Over about 5 weeks they spent about $9.75 on cooling. They are very happy with the ice guard that was installed as well. Looking forward to the heating season.
Maine Alternative Comfort is truly unique. They know their product.. They insist on knowing the heating needs of their customer before recommending an installation. And, they are equally dedicated to satisfying the customer...Go nowhere else for a heat pump, an efficient energy source that markedly reduced my oil consumption during the winter of of 2012-13
I first learned about the competitive advantages of heat pump heating and cooling as the ranking member of the current Maine Legislature's Energy Committee and became aware of Maine Alternative Comfort at a committee public hearing. Our heat pump is exceeding our expectations and we cannot wait for cold weather expecting that we will be as happy with the heating side of the pump as we are with the cooling side. Maine Alternative Comfort arrived at the house at 7:00am with a crew of six, each person had a job and they went about there work. By 9:00 half the crew had completed their work and were gone, by9:45 with wiring complete, holes drilled, interior and exterior equipment installed, house cleaned and instructions on it's use complete everyone was gone. It's always a pleasure to do business with real professionals.

Maine Alternative Comfort is a top notch company with outstanding assessment, cost saving predictions, installation and service. Adam Hoyt is honest and capable plus he has an excellent product. In my case, the heat pump paid for it self in less than one heating season. This counted $600 rebate from Bangor Hydro Electric, $250 rebate from the manufacturer, $300 Federal Income Tax credit and most of all savings of about $2,750 in oil (from $3,000 to $250). Bangor Hydro also gave special rate per kilowatt hour during heating season. Electric costs went up about $80/month when compared to the previous year heating season.
We used the heat pump supplemented with wood stove. Used about 4 cords of wood which was about 2 cords more than previous year.
We were delighted with the results and look forward to another comfortable winter. By the way, it also works great on those few Maine days in summer when you need air conditioning.
Adam I am more than pleased with the heat pump you installed. I used it this summer to learn how it worked and enjoyed a cool dry summer inside my house. I was surprised and pleased to see that my electric bill did not go up. I was able to get rid of my old dehumidifier. Am looking forward to winter and cutting the oil bill down.
We couldn't be more pleased with the heat pump and your company. We're four months short of a year with it and our savings are substantial. Your estimate of decreased oil consumption was very close. We are particularly pleased with the relatively scant increase in the electrical bill. We used the cooling feature a lot this summer and the Bangor Hydro difference was negligible.

I had my unit installed in July and it was just in time for the hot weather. When it is turned on, in a matter of minutes the rooms are cooled down. I am looking forward to this Winter and saving on my fuel oil bill. The installation was very quick and very neat.
I would just like to let you know that I love my heat pump. I never had an air conditioner before but I used this just to see how it would work, I have to tell you I love it and my Hydro bill did not go up much at all. I am very happy with. Also I would like to say that the people that work for you did a great they left everything clean. Thanks again.
Maine Alternative Comfort is a company that carries out what is stated in their contract,on time for, initial assessment, installation and instruction on use of the system says a lot of the company.
The employees were always professional, with respect for property, patience with questions and concerns. I would highly recommend Maine Alternative Comfort. My Fujitsu model # 12RLS2 was
Installed July 6 2013 and a did a fantastic job cooling and very quiet operation and saw no increase in energy use. Based on the cooling I believe heating will be as great
To whom it may concern:
Alternative Comfort installed two Fujitsu mini split heat pumps in our home this spring. The installation was done efficiently and with minimum disruption to the house and the units look good. The units worked flawlessly and made it possible for us to enjoy cool comfort during the hot and humid parts of the summer. We are looking forward to their contribution to our home heating and adding comfort this coming winter.
So far we love the heat pump. The guys did a fantastic job on the install. They were polite, friendly and professional. Please pat them on the back for a job well done!
Thanks and have a great day!

Your crew consisting of Sam, Allen and Jason did a wonderful job installing our heat pump. They all acted professionally and Sam did a wonderful job explaining the unit and helping with the paper work. We enjoy the heat pump and can already see how it will even out the temperature throughout the house.
Your installers did an excellent job yesterday. They were efficient and polite. We couldn’t be happier with the service from the quote meeting with you to the install. Kudos to you and your employees!
Good Afternoon Adam.
Your team installed a 24RLXRW Mini-Split yesterday. Thought you should know what a fabulous job they did. Arrived early, got right to work, performed as a fluid team in sync with each other. (amazing to watch) Installation was first rate. Unit looks great and works perfectly. Please express my gratitude to all.
Your crew did a great job in just 5 hours. I am impressed.
Fantastic job by the guys yesterday on the heat pump install. Very pleased with what they did.

Hi Adam, Your guys were great to work with- cheerfully installed heater in brutally cold conditions. It is working fine, delivered lovely warm air yesterday morning at -5 degrees!
We are enjoying the heat pump, experimenting with coordinating it with the wood stove + oil furnace. Your crew was great – friendly, competent + considerate.

I love the heat. It's hard to explain, but it is simply consistently warm. So thank you, and your crew. Who, by the way, were a really good group.
